David Bowie live 1964-2004

18. July 1972

Aylesbury, Friars Club

"Good eveneing, my name is David Bowie and these are the Spiders from Mars and we're gonna rock and roll tonight all right", Bowie says before starting the show, and indeed this is a very interesting setlist with lots of space to Mick Ronsons guitar. And e few surprices as well. Ziggy Stardust is omitted with Queen Bitch and for the first time on the tour he performed the new single John I'm Only Dancing. "Our new single on RCA Records and Tapes, this is called John I'm Only Dancing. The song is played fast and vigorously and after the song, Bowie says "I don't usually talk much on stage, do I? Hello (laughs) I'll tell you where the numbers come from, this next one is from an album called The Man Who Sold The World, and it's about two years old, we are doing a couple of those things tonight and this is the first one called Supermen.

The concerts big surprise is the first and only live version of Beatles' This Boy. Beautiful performance and a very jolly version. Of course this rock show do also include the usual Lou Reed songs, this time around introduced by Bowie with "All right, mister Reed, your numbers now." "Thank you very much Aylesbury" Bowie says when he returns to do the encore, this time another surprise, the Ziggy Stardust album outtake Round and Round.
